Touch Typing Lessons With a Little Extra Support

If your child has dyslexia or a learning difference and you feel they learn best with some tutor help, our one to one lessons are a great option.

Your child will have their own friendly personal tutor, helping them to feel confident and happy whilst learning how to touch type. Their tutor will design and adapt lessons to meet your child’s needs and assign practice sessions in between lessons so they can consolidate their learning and apply what they have learned. Parents are welcome to stay and sit in on the lesson if they wish to.

One to one touch typing lessons are an affordable and quick way of learning this essential skill. Bespoke lessons cost just £65.00 per hour.

What People are Saying...

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are these lessons suitable for?

One to one lessons are perfect for a child aged 7+ who may have a specific learning difference such as dyslexia or dyspraxia. Having face to face lessons with a tutor will help get your child’s typing off to a great start. One to one lessons are suitable for all learners – not just those with an SpLD. We can offer these lessons either on Zoom or directly at one of our centres (subject to availability).

How do one to one lessons work?

When you fill in your booking form, please let us know when you would like to book in for your first Zoom lesson. Once payment has been made, we will confirm a date with you and send you the Zoom link. You will be joined on Zoom by one of our lovely friendly touch typing tutors. We encourage all parents to be present during this first meeting. The tutor will go through how the course works, and your child will be shown the correct finger positioning as well as lots of tips and tricks on how to get the best out of the course. They will finish the session by completing a few lessons with their tutor closely supervising their progress. We will arrange for further lessons to be booked.

How long are the lessons?

You can book a one-hour lesson or a 30-minute lesson (if you feel your child will find an hour too much). We will have a few mini breaks throughout the session. We would recommend that your child has a regular weekly lesson. If your child is older and feels they can cope, you can also choose to fast track the course with perhaps two lessons each week. Subject to tutor availability.

Most lessons run either after school or at the weekends. We can also run one to one lessons during the school holidays. Just specify the time you require on your booking form and we will try and match you with one of our tutors.

If your child is ill or doesn’t turn up for a lesson, your tutor will wait for 10 minutes on Zoom and text you a reminder. If we haven’t heard from you after 15 minutes, we will assume it is a no show and you will be charged for that missed lesson. If you notify us in advance of the lesson that your child is ill or you are going on holiday, you will not be charged for that missed lesson.

How many lessons will my child need?

Every child is different and it depends on their needs and the course we are using, most students require between 10 – 20 lessons to complete the course.

Can I mix and match lessons?

Yes. If your child is doing well in their one-to-one lessons, there may be the option to switch to the Flexi-Time Home Course where they will complete some lessons from home independently with their tutor giving written feedback each week.

Do I need to help my child?

With our one-to-one lessons, we really like to meet the parent in the first lesson just so that you are aware of how the course works and what the expectations are. You are also on hand to check with finger positioning if the webcam doesn’t allow us to look down at their fingers.

How many lessons do I need to pay for up front?

We will invoice you for 5 lessons at a time. Your child will need a minimum of 10 lessons.

Can my other child join in the session?

If you are thinking of having one to one lessons because your child needs the extra help, then we wouldn’t recommend anyone else joining in the lesson. If your child does not have a SpLD, then they can be taken together in a group. Charges for this second place will apply. Contact us for more info.

What programmes do you use?

We use a carefully selected range of excellent programmes that are specialist touch typing programmes for adults and children. We have also curated our own specialist course for children with dyslexia.

What is the role of the tutor?

Our tutors are lovely! All of our tutors are ‘real’ human beings – not bots! Our tutors are all ages and nationalities and come from different backgrounds. All of expert tutors can touch type proficiently – some over 100wpm! Some of our tutors are teachers, some work in business and others are university students that learnt how to touch type with us many years previously. The one thing we all have in common is that we are passionate about teaching children this wonderful life skill. We really care about what we do and go out of our way to ensure your child gets the very best out of the course.

Our DBS Enhanced checked tutors are there to offer support and encouragement to your child throughout the course. They will show them how to make the keystrokes using their on screen cameras so that your child can copy and follow along. They will be checking their accuracy and giving tips on how to remember the keystrokes. They will ensure that the children are enjoying the lessons, modifying and adapting their lessons where necessary.
