The Flexi Time Home Course Plus+ is for children aged 9+ and starts with two lessons on Zoom ideal for younger children or those that prefer more one to one help to get off to a great start. This course is perfectly suited for a child with dyslexia or dyspraxia. Once they have had their two lessons on Zoom, they then carry on with the remaining lessons from home. Tutor support will be given by written feedback each week.

Getting started is easy and all you need is a laptop with internet access! In advance of the session, we will ask you to purchase some Velcro stickers and also make a keyboard cover from a cardboard box. On the day, you will be joined on Zoom by one of our lovely friendly touch-typing tutors. We encourage all parents to be present during this first meeting.

The tutor will go through how the course works, and your child will be shown the correct finger positioning as well as lots of tips and tricks on how to get the best out of the course. They will finish the session with completing a few lessons with their tutor closely supervising their progress.

The second Zoom lesson date will then be agreed. Once the Zoom lessons have finished, your child will then move on with the remaining lessons from home for the remaining 8 weeks of the course.

You will be given a deadline day each week when your child needs to have completed all of their lessons by. For example, if that day is a Monday, your child can complete their practice from Tuesday – Sunday, ready for their tutor to check their work online and give written feedback.

The feedback will include information about their overall results e.g. accuracy and speed, any tricky keys and how to overcome those problems, any lessons they need to repeat, what to do next and how to do it. The next set of lessons will be unlocked by their tutor. At the end of the course, their tutor will send you a final feedback and a certificate of their achievement.

If your child does not complete their lessons by their deadline date we will let you know by email. The first missed lesson doesn’t count as a paid feedback, but any further missed lessons will do. It’s therefore really important that your child gets into a good routine with their touch typing lessons. If you need to go away on holiday or your child is ill, please let us know as early as possible so we don’t count it as a missed lesson.

Your child can start their course at any time and when they have started, they can do their practice on any day at any time – as long as they complete their assigned lessons by the feedback day each week.

If your child is finding the course too challenging for them, we can switch them to our easier Junior Dyslexia course. That doesn’t mean they have to start at the beginning. We can start them at a point that is right for them. Your child’s tutor will be monitoring their progress throughout. Alternatively, you can decide to fast track the course part way through. Our tutors are there to offer support and encouragement to your child.

With our Zoom lessons, the tutor will show them how to make the keystrokes using their on screen cameras so that your child can copy and follow along. They will be checking their accuracy and giving tips on how to remember the keystrokes. They will ensure that the children are enjoying the lessons, modifying and adapting their lessons where necessary.

On our Flexi Time Home Courses, they will be looking at your child’s typing stats each week, and doing playbacks of their real keystrokes so they can see first hand what their typing looks like so they can easily spot any problems. They will then collate that information and write a summary of their results by email, focusing on offering words of encouragement and an outline of what they need to do and how to do it. These step-by-step instructions means that your child can complete their lessons with confidence.

We always recommend that parents take an interest in what their child is learning because encouragement from a parent always helps. You could even set up a motivational reward system at home. Every child is different but the majority of our students do finish the course in 10 weeks.

Our Flexi Time Home Courses are designed as a continuous course, so if lessons are missed or your child has had to repeat some of the lessons, it may take longer than the allocated time.

If this happens, we will notify you closer to the end of the course, suggesting that you enrol your child for some additional weeks and tutor feedback support, so that they can complete the course.

Some students will need more practice and lessons if they have a learning difference or are younger.

We encourage all of our students to carry on touch typing with us. We know from experience that once the course has finished, students may forget to carry on practicing. For students that have finished the course but would like to increase their speed further with our support, we recommend our ‘Carry on Course’. This is a 3-month lesson plan, focusing on speed work, dictation, symbols, numbers, with tutor feedback once a month.
