I had the pleasure of teaching an adult how to touch type a few weeks ago. In my experience, the children I work with tend to grasp it a lot quicker than the adults. I’m not sure why. Maybe because adults have to undo bad habits, or they overthink more. Sometimes frustration can affect concentration or confidence.
A challenge!
My client found it a challenging week. I used every one of my tips and tricks to try help him assign the keystrokes to muscle memory. What we realised was that the best way for him to learn was by pure repetition. So that’s what we did.
Determined to carry on
My client perhaps didn’t get as far as he would have liked to in one week, but he never gave up and wants to carry on learning – I admire that. And with his determination, I know he will get there!
A lovely review
He sent me a lovely review, saying, “I would like to thank you, as you were incredibly patient, skilful and encouraging and I appreciated this very much”.
A fantastic quote
He also sent me one of his favourite quotes, words that we both hold very dear.
As Plato said, ‘Never discourage anyone who continually makes progress, no matter how slow.’
